Food safety accreditation - Queensland

Description

You may need an accreditation with Safe Food if you intend to produce, process or transport meat, eggs, dairy, seafood or horticulture (seed sprouts). An accreditation is needed in order to legally sell or supply your product(s) in Queensland.

Application process

New accreditation

Information required will vary slightly depending on the product / activity, but the following is needed to complete an application:

  • application form
  • payment of fees
  • management statement or food safety program
  • site plan / map
  • photos of the premise / vehicle / vessel
  • approval from local council to operate from the proposed location (for fixed land based premises)
  • notice of surrender if taking over an existing accreditation.

Amendment to existing licence

You will need approval if you make any major changes to:

  • processes (e.g. undertaking additional processing activities)
  • activities (e.g. making new product categories that have different critical control points)
  • facility (e.g. substantial changes to premise layout or add-ons to the premise with new equipment)
  • critical control points (e.g. changing the value of or adding a CCP).

Approval time

Your application will be processed within 14 days of payment being received. During this time, your application will be assessed and additional information may be requested. A temporary accreditation is issued to new applicants deemed to be undertaking activities that are medium-risk or high-risk. A temporary accreditation is issued for a period of up to two months, prior to being considered for an open accreditation.

Additional information

This accreditation only allows you to produce or process the primary produce named in your accreditation, according to the conditions of the accreditation.
